The topic of this essay was inspired by Peter Stalker’s writing ‘Emigrants as heroes’. Furthermore, the issue brain drain resulting from sending skilled immigrants to developed nations as a result of benefit to themselves and their country. Hence the question, ‘Do they benefit the host country or their own country. This article by Stalker shows both sides of the argument referring the advantage and disadvantage of immigrants migrating to countries for better pay as well as life.

On another perspective Boyle et al (1998) explains how large number of skilled employees enter the international labor market through three main ways. These include large industrial companies known as Multi national companies (MNCs) who work within the internal labor market (ILM) and aid the relocations of employees, starting from living locally and moving to other parts of the world as are result of utilizing their experience. Secondly, standard of economic growth increase in developing nations but lack of skilled people as they have migrated abroad. And finally international recruitment agencies employed by many developing countries recruiting employees with potential skills and sending them to countries are lacking these skills these laborers have.

Although it may seem advantageous for several reasons, either to the individual or their families it is obvious that their original country is losing out while the country they immigrate to is gaining from their experience and knowledge. One of the main impacts of skilled immigrants for their original country is ‘brain drain’, a term coined by several writers. According to Stalker for example, if a country invests large sum of money, time and expertise on one individual, for example, a doctor or engineer and if these skilled people leave their country to another it means that country will lose several years of investment in
